The EORI number (Economic Operators\u2019 Registration and Identification Number) has replaced the German customs number since 2009 and is an important component of the movement of goods between EU and non-EU countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In German, the EORI number is also referred to as “Registrierungs- und Identifizierungsnummer f\u00fcr Wirtschaftsbeteiligte.” It is to be used in every exchange of information with customs authorities in the course of trade activities. A common identification number leads to greater efficiency in customs procedures within the EU and therefore always has the same two-part format.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Structure of the EORI number<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The EORI number contains up to 17 characters. It consists of:<\/p>\n\n\n

  1. from the two-digit country code of the issuing member state (e.g., DE for Germany)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. and a code that is unique within the member state.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

    Who needs an EORI number?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    In general, all businesses \u2013 including Amazon sellers \u2013 need such a number when importing goods into the EU or exporting them from the EU. However, this number is not required for shipments within the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In certain cases, namely when making more than 10 customs declarations per year, individuals are also required to use the EORI number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
