Amazon FBA Costs: All Fees for 2025 in One Overview

What are the actual FBA expenses from Amazon? Often, Amazon FBA fees only refer to shipping and storage costs. However, there are actually additional expenses that need to be considered when calculating FBA business costs.
Newcomers to Amazon are true fans of the Amazon business with its own delivery service, Fulfillment by Amazon. The big promise of numerous Facebook groups is that anyone can really start on Amazon even with a relatively small initial capital and achieve seven-figure profits in a short time.
It cannot be denied that creating your own logistics is very costly. Fulfillment by Amazon – or simply FBA – covers many areas that would otherwise fall on the shoulders of online sellers. But what are the actual costs of Amazon FBA, and does this service really justify itself for sellers on Amazon?
What is FBA?
Over time, Amazon has optimized its delivery processes and developed a paid product based on them – “Fulfillment by Amazon.” With Amazon FBA, the marketplace supports online sellers to minimize the high costs associated with shipping products. The service portfolio of the FBA program includes the following items:
As a seller, you are “only” responsible for sending your products to Amazon’s logistics center. From that point on, Amazon packs and ships for you. Amazon sellers must “only” ensure that their inventory is always replenished.
When we talk about Amazon FBA expenses, we mean all the fees associated with shipping your products to Amazon customers. But what should you really pay attention to when calculating fees for your Amazon business?
Regardless of the shipping method, whether it’s selling through Amazon FBA or self-shipping via FBM (Fulfillment by Merchant), there are additional expenses. You need to account for these expenses:
Amazon FBA expenses
These fees encompass all expenses incurred during shipping with Amazon. They include:
Cost of goods sold
But at the very beginning are the products themselves. To get them onto Amazon, a lot of effort is required related to purchasing and subsequently shipping to Amazon FBA warehouses. Other expenses are added to the purchase price, such as:
What is included in Amazon FBA expenses?
As you can see, starting without a comprehensive price calculation can be challenging. With an accurate calculation of expenses, you already understand in advance whether the target product will generate sufficient profit or under what price fluctuations in the Buy Box it may even become unprofitable.
Now let’s take a look at the fees associated with the Amazon business and FBA expenses.
One-time Amazon FBA expenses
Business registration
Without business registration, you cannot engage in commercial activities in Germany. The costs for business registration are in a small range. For individuals, they range from €25 to €55, while for legal entities, the prices vary from €25 to €65.

Amazon seller account fees
Amazon offers two account models upon registration: basic and professional. However, to use Amazon FBA, you need a seller account with a professional plan. The monthly expenses amount to €39 plus value-added tax. Fees such as selling fees and other Amazon FBA expenses (shipping) arise after a successful sale and shipment.

Commission fees (selling fees)
An additional fee is charged for each sale – the commission or selling fee. It depends on the category and country of sale. Amazon’s percentage fees for sales in Germany range from 7% to 45% (which cannot be ignored when researching products and choosing a niche). These fees apply to the total sale price – the final price that the buyer must pay, including the product price and shipping and gift wrapping costs. Since shipping is included in Amazon FBA expenses, it, in turn, affects the selling fees.
There are only a few exceptions in Amazon’s fees:
You will find the current Amazon FBA selling fees in this table for Russian. Information about other markets can be found here. However, this does not yet cover all expenses related to Amazon FBA.
Closing fee
If you sell media products, an additional closing fee is charged for each sold item. It is €1.01 for books and €0.81 for music, DVDs, videos, video games, and software.
Amazon Advertising
With Amazon Ads, you can showcase your products or brand both on Amazon websites and on external platforms using Amazon’s extensive advertising solutions. Amazon offers advertising formats that range from Sponsored Products or Sponsored Brands to display and video ads, as well as custom multi-page stores. This allows products to be placed even above current bestsellers. Sellers can purposefully create advertising campaigns and promote their offerings based on specific keywords, products, and categories.
Advertising is optional and not included in Amazon FBA expenses, but especially during the launch phase (60 days), Pay per Click ads are important for generating initial sales and improving organic ranking.
Are ads counted if online sellers do not win the Buy Box with their products? No. Advertising is fairly charged by Amazon only if sellers have the opportunity to sell their products on Amazon. However, Sponsored Brands ads do not fall under this rule, as they are not aimed at selling.

Amazon FBA storage costs
Amazon FBA storage fees are measured per cubic meter per month and vary by country. Additionally, prices differ based on product category and season. During the Christmas sales period from October to December, higher storage fees will apply compared to the off-season from January to September.

Amazon FBA shipping costs (Pan-EU and local)
In Amazon, FBA shipping fees are calculated as a fixed rate per unit and depend on the type of product, dimensions, weight, and storage location. You should consider these dimensions during product research to avoid margin losses later.
To save on shipping costs through Amazon FBA, it is often recommended to use the extended logistics network in Central Europe (Czech Republic, Poland, and Germany). Since storing exclusively in Germany without participating in the “Central Europe” program increases Amazon FBA shipping fees by 0.25 € per FBA item. If you are considering this option, you as an online seller should keep in mind that when storing and shipping goods from abroad, you do not have to pay customs duties, but you must pay taxes that are not accounted for in Amazon’s calculations.
Until 2023, sellers could reduce their costs on Amazon FBA through the Small & Light program. This program has been discontinued. For former Small & Light items, the same FBA fees from Amazon now apply as for all other products. Only the net shipping costs for the so-called low-cost items are lower. Here you will find an overview for items priced at 11 euros or less, including VAT: “Shipping fees through Amazon” for low-cost items.

Additional delivery options
The additional delivery options from Amazon include
The first two delivery options require further explanation, as they have significant implications when calculating all costs for Amazon FBA.
Return fees (returns to the seller) and disposal
If inventory due to slow-moving goods or unsuitable resale leads to high storage costs, or if the online seller faces high long-term storage fees due to extended holding periods, it makes sense to apply for a return (return of goods to online sellers) or disposal of goods. In Amazon FBA, the cost of return depends on the weight, size of the item, and whether the item needs to be returned locally or cross-border to you as the online seller.
When disposing, the weight and size of the item are taken into account for calculating the fee.
Fee for listing a large number of offers (from 2 million SKUs)
If you list more than 2 million SKUs (media items not included) on the Amazon marketplace, you will be charged a monthly fee based on the number of active SKUs you offer on Amazon. It is €0.0004 for each active non-media SKU.
If you, for example, list 3 million active SKUs, the fee for that month will be €400 (3,000,000 SKUs – 2,000,000 SKUs = 1,000,000 SKUs x €0.0004). Most Amazon FBA sellers can ignore these costs as they list fewer items.
Tools without which business on Amazon is impossible
Amazon FBA fees: do calculators make sense?
Most calculators for estimating Amazon FBA costs are inadequate. Anyone who truly wants to build or run a business on Amazon professionally should not rely on such small tools. For an initial assessment of whether a product idea is feasible, cost calculators can be quite useful for Amazon FBA sellers; however, they are too inaccurate for monitoring one’s own costs. This jeopardizes the margin and profitability of online sellers.
Instead, professional Amazon sellers need professional software that tracks costs, revenues, and profits. SELLERLOGIC Business Analytics is a specialized profit dashboard for Amazon sellers:
Only by knowing their business performance can online sellers make data-driven decisions. With Business Analytics for Amazon, they visualize all costs and revenues almost in real-time on an understandable profit dashboard. This way, you gain insights into which listings should be optimized or turned off, and which product segments can be expanded. The data obtained on the development of your FBA products can lead to important strategic decisions and sustainable success.

Repricer and refunds for FBA errors
Not only profit dashboards facilitate the daily operations of online sellers. Other tools are also crucial for business success. These include a good repricer that handles price optimization. With a repricer, you gain the Buy Box and thereby achieve consistent sales of your FBA products. This, in turn, affects your storage costs, as they are minimized. Additionally, all sellers should use a tool for refunds for FBA errors if they do not want to unjustly give money to Amazon. Among the most common errors is the incorrect valuation of items by Amazon — this can significantly increase your costs on Amazon FBA, as storage fees and shipping charges depend on this.
SELLERLOGIC Repricer
With a repricer, you gain the Buy Box and thereby achieve consistent sales of your FBA products. This, in turn, affects your storage costs, as they are minimized. However, many repricing tools implement strict rules, such as “Price always two cents lower than the cheapest competitor’s product.” This leads to conflicts during repricing:
In contrast, SELLERLOGIC Repricer for Amazon operates dynamically and intelligently. This means it takes into account not only important metrics but also comprehensively analyzes the market situation. It initially sets the price low enough for the product to gain the Buy Box. But then it optimizes the price again — thus ensuring that the Buy Box is held not at the lowest price, but at the highest possible price. Additionally, this professional software offers additional optimization strategies to determine the best price — also for private label products.

Anyone who does not want to unjustly give their money to Amazon must take advantage of Lost & Found. Since sellers on the marketplace can lose up to 3% of their annual gross revenue due to FBA errors. Funds that you should not write off, but can easily recover with SELLERLOGIC within one day.
Conclusion – Take off the rose-colored glasses
With numerous tools, including Amazon’s own delivery service, you can automate many processes in online trading. An investment that is often justified. Expenses for Amazon Business (with FBA or without) can be well distributed, and some items can be quickly reduced — such as packaging, shipping, marketing, or accounting. However, such a service is certainly not free. Amazon FBA costs represent a significant portion that sellers must consider in their product pricing.
Inexperienced online sellers may be overwhelmed by the sheer number of factors to consider when selling on Amazon. But preparation is everything, and then you’ll quickly get the hang of it.
If you, as an online seller, always keep your expenses under control in your FBA-Amazon-Business, you will also be able to quickly assess which products are suitable for FBA, which type of products you need to switch to your own logistics, or which items should be completely removed from your marketplace and your portfolio.
Frequently Asked Questions
The costs of Amazon FBA consist of several parts. On one hand, there is a storage fee charged per cubic meter, which depends on the type of product and the current season. On the other hand, Amazon charges for FBA shipping. These vary depending on the destination country and the size of the product. Additional costs, such as long-term storage fees or return costs, may also arise.
Amazon fees include sales commissions, item fees, or monthly charges depending on the sales plan, as well as additional costs for premium services or marketing. Amazon FBA fees are charged for products listed in the FBA service and cover storage, fulfillment, packaging, and shipping costs. Both Amazon fees and FBA fees are calculated based on the category, size, and weight of the sold item.
The largest costs of Amazon FBA arise from storing and transporting products to Amazon’s warehouse. Ideally, you should send your products directly from the supplier to Amazon and try not to keep too much inventory in the warehouse.
To build a business, startup capital is also required for Amazon FBA sellers. However, it is difficult to specify an exact amount, as the need depends on various factors such as product category, existing logistics, personal requirements, and much more. In general, the startup capital is less than many beginners think. With startup capital of less than one thousand euros, you can aim for a six-figure income: Revenue: Plus 500 percent – how AMZ Smartsell built a six-figure income business in just one year.
Storage fees in Amazon FBA typically range from 33.60 euros to 66.59 euros.
The net selling fee varies depending on the product category and ranges from 7% to 45%. However, additional costs are added, especially when using Amazon FBA, such as storage fees, returns, and product shipping.
Since the actual costs of FBA consist of various items, there is no comprehensive document with Amazon FBA fees, neither in PDF format nor on the website.
