Amazon FBA Costs: All Fees for 2025 at a Glance

What are the actual FBA costs from Amazon? Often, Amazon FBA fees are only related to shipping costs and storage fees. However, there are actually additional costs that must be considered when calculating an FBA business.
Amazon beginners are true fans of the Amazon business with the marketplace’s own shipping service Fulfillment by Amazon. The big promise of the numerous Facebook groups is that anyone can start with Amazon even with relatively little startup capital and achieve 7-figure profits in no time.
It is undeniable that building one’s own logistics is very costly. Fulfillment by Amazon – or simply FBA – covers many areas that would otherwise fall on the online sellers. But how high are the actual Amazon FBA costs, and is the service really worth it for Amazon sellers?
What is FBA anyway?
Amazon has optimized its shipping processes over time and developed a paid product – “Fulfillment by Amazon.” With Amazon FBA, the marketplace supports online sellers to minimize the high effort involved in shipping the items. The service portfolio of the FBA program includes the following points:
As a seller, you are “only” responsible for sending your goods to an Amazon logistics center. From now on, Amazon will pack and ship for you. Amazon sellers only need to ensure that the inventory is always replenished.
When we talk about Amazon FBA costs, we mean all fees associated with the delivery of your goods to Amazon customers. But what should you actually pay attention to when calculating the fees for your Amazon business?
Regardless of the shipping method, whether you sell through Amazon FBA or ship yourself via FBM (Fulfillment by Merchant), there are additional costs. You need to account for these costs:
Amazon FBA costs
Under these fees, all costs incurred by shipping with Amazon are consolidated. These include:
Product costs
But at the very beginning are the products themselves. To get these to Amazon, a lot of effort must be put into purchasing and the subsequent shipping to the Amazon FBA warehouses. In addition to the purchase price, there are additional expenses, such as:
What is included in the Amazon FBA costs?
As you can see, starting without a comprehensive pricing calculation can be bumpy. With precise cost accounting, you can already recognize in advance whether the targeted product will yield enough profit margin or at what price fluctuations in the Buy Box it may even become unprofitable.
Let’s now address the fees related to the Amazon business and FBA costs.
One-time Amazon FBA costs
Business registration
Without a business registration, you cannot engage in any commercial activity in Germany. The costs for a business registration are relatively low. For natural persons, it ranges from €25 to €55, while for legal entities, the prices range from €25 to €65.

Fees for the Amazon seller account
Amazon offers two account models upon registration: Basic and Professional. However, to use Amazon FBA, you need a seller account with the Professional selling plan. The monthly costs are €39 plus VAT. Fees such as referral fees and other Amazon FBA (shipping) costs are incurred after successful sales and shipping.
Monthly Amazon FBA costs
Referral fees (sales commission)
With each sale, an additional fee is incurred – referral fee or sales commission. This is dependent on the category and the country of sale. The percentage Amazon sales fees in Germany range from 7% to 45% (not to be overlooked during product research and the niche to be targeted). These refer to the total sale price – the final price to be paid by the buyer, which includes the item price and the costs for shipping and gift wrapping. Since shipping is part of the Amazon FBA costs, it also influences the sales fees.
There are only a few exceptions in Amazon’s fee structure:
You can find the current Amazon FBA sales fees in this table for Germany. Information on other marketplaces can be found here. However, this does not cover all costs relevant to Amazon FBA.
Closing fee
If you sell media products, an additional closing fee is incurred per sold item. This is €1.01 for books and €0.81 each for music, DVDs, videos, video games, and software.
Amazon Advertising
With Amazon Ads, you can showcase your products or brand on both Amazon websites and external platforms through extensive Amazon advertising solutions. Amazon offers ad formats ranging from Sponsored Products or Sponsored Brands to display and video ads, as well as custom multi-page stores. This allows products to be placed even above the current bestsellers. Sellers can create targeted advertising campaigns and promote their offers under specific keywords, products, and categories.
Advertising is optional and does not count towards Amazon FBA costs, but especially during the launch phase (60 days), pay-per-click ads are important for generating initial sales and improving organic ranking.
Are ads charged when online sellers do not get the Buy Box with their items? No. Advertising is fairly charged by Amazon only when sellers have a chance to sell their products on Amazon. Sponsored Brands Ads are exempt from this rule, as they do not aim at sales.

Amazon FBA storage costs
Amazon FBA storage fees are measured per cubic meter per month and vary by country. Additionally, prices differ by product category and season. During the holiday season, higher storage costs will be incurred from October to December compared to the off-season from January to September.

Amazon FBA shipping costs (Pan-EU and local)
At Amazon, FBA shipping fees are calculated as a flat rate per unit and depend on the product type, dimensions, weight, and storage location. You must consider these dimensions during your product research to avoid margin losses later on.
To save on shipping costs through Amazon FBA, it is often recommended to utilize the expanded logistics network in Central Europe (Czech Republic, Poland, and Germany). Because if you only store in Germany without participating in the “Central Europe” program, Amazon FBA shipping fees increase by €0.25 per FBA item. If you are considering using this option, you must keep in mind as an online seller that while you will not incur customs fees when storing and shipping goods from abroad, you will have to pay taxes that are not accounted for in Amazon’s calculations.
Until 2023, sellers could reduce their Amazon FBA costs through the Small & Light program. This has since been discontinued. For former Small & Light items, the same FBA fees are now charged by Amazon as for all other products. Only the pure shipping costs for so-called low-priced items are lower. Here you can find an overview for items priced at €11 or less including VAT: “Fulfillment by Amazon” fees for low-priced items.

Additional shipping options
The additional shipping options from Amazon include
The first two shipping options require further explanation, as they represent a significant value in the calculation of all Amazon FBA costs.
Fees for returns (returns to the seller) and disposal
If the inventory incurs high storage costs due to slow turnover or unsuitable resale, or if the online seller faces high long-term storage fees due to extended storage times, it is worthwhile to apply for returns (returning the goods to the online sellers) or disposal of the items. With Amazon FBA, the costs for returns depend on the weight, item size, and whether the goods need to be returned to you as the online seller locally or cross-border.
For disposal, the fee calculation takes into account the weight and size of the item.
Fee for listing large quantities of offers (from 2 million SKUs)
If you list over 2 million SKUs (media items are excluded from this calculation) on the Amazon marketplace, you will be charged a monthly fee based on the number of active SKUs you offer on Amazon. This fee is €0.0004 for each active non-media SKU.
For example, if you list 3 million active SKUs, the fee for that month would be €400 (€3,000,000 SKUs – €2,000,000 SKUs = €1,000,000 SKUs x €0.0004). However, most Amazon FBA sellers can disregard these costs as they list fewer products.
Tools without which a business on Amazon is not possible
Amazon FBA fees: Are calculators useful?
Most calculators for Amazon FBA costs are inadequate. Anyone who truly wants to build or run an Amazon business professionally should not rely on such small tools. For an initial assessment of whether a product idea is feasible at all, cost calculators may be quite practical for Amazon FBA sellers – however, they are far too inaccurate for keeping track of one’s own costs. This puts online sellers at risk of jeopardizing their margin and profitability.
Instead, professional Amazon sellers need professional software that keeps track of costs, revenues, and profits. SELLERLOGIC Business Analytics is such a profit dashboard specialized for Amazon sellers:
Because only when online sellers know their business performance can they make data-driven decisions. With Business Analytics for Amazon, they visualize all costs and revenues almost in real-time on a clear profit dashboard. This provides an overview of which listings to optimize or remove and which product segments to expand. Insights into the development of your FBA products can lead to important strategic decisions and sustainable success.

Repricer and reimbursement of FBA errors
Not only profit dashboards facilitate the daily business of an online seller. Other tools are also essential for business success. This includes a good repricer that handles price optimization. With the help of the repricer, you win the Buy Box and achieve a continuous sale of your FBA goods. This, in turn, affects your storage costs, as they are minimized. All sellers should also use a tool for the reimbursement of FBA errors, unless they want to give away money to Amazon for no reason. One of the most common errors is the incorrect assessment of items by Amazon – this can significantly increase your Amazon FBA costs, as storage costs and shipping fees depend on it.
SELLERLOGIC Repricer
With the help of the repricer, you win the Buy Box and achieve a continuous sale of your FBA goods. This, in turn, affects your storage costs, as they are minimized. However, many repricer tools implement rigid rules such as “The price is always two cents below the cheapest competitor product.” This leads to conflicts in repricing:
The SELLERLOGIC Repricer for Amazon, on the other hand, works dynamically and intelligently. This means it not only considers important metrics but also comprehensively analyzes the market situation. It initially sets the price low enough to win the Buy Box. However, it then optimizes the price again – ensuring that the Buy Box is held not at the lowest, but at the highest possible price. Additionally, this professional software offers further optimization strategies to determine the best price – even for private label products.
SELLERLOGIC Lost & Found Full-Service
The experiences of our customers speak for themselves:
Sandra Schriewer
“There are many service providers in the market without which it is hardly possible to build a successful business on Amazon. However, the Lost & Found solution is unique and indispensable for FBA sellers!”
Anyone who does not want to give away their money to Amazon unnecessarily should definitely take advantage of Lost & Found. Marketplace sellers can lose up to 3% of their annual gross revenue due to FBA errors. Funds that you should not write off, but can easily reclaim within a day with SELLERLOGIC.
Conclusion – Take off the rose-colored glasses
With numerous tools, including Amazon’s own shipping service, you can automate many processes in online retail. An investment that usually pays off. The costs for the Amazon business (with or without FBA) can be well distributed, and some items can be quickly reduced – such as packaging, shipping, marketing, or accounting. Nevertheless, such a service is, of course, not free. Therefore, Amazon FBA costs represent a significant portion that sellers must incorporate into their product prices.
Inexperienced online sellers may initially feel overwhelmed by the overwhelming number of items that need to be considered when selling on Amazon. However, preparation is key, and then one can quickly find their way.
If you, as an online seller, keep the costs for your FBA Amazon business in mind, you will also be able to quickly assess which goods are suitable for FBA, which product types require you to switch to your own logistics, or which items you should completely remove from your marketplace and portfolio.
Frequently Asked Questions
Amazon FBA costs consist of several components. On one hand, a storage fee is charged per cubic meter, which depends on the product type and the current season. On the other hand, Amazon charges FBA shipping costs, which vary depending on the destination country and product dimensions. Additional costs such as long-term storage fees or return costs may also apply.
Amazon fees include sales fees, per-item fees, or monthly fees depending on the selling plan, as well as additional costs for premium services or marketing. FBA fees are charged for products listed under the FBA service and cover the costs of storage, picking, packing, and shipping. Both Amazon fees and FBA fees are calculated based on the category, size, and weight of the sold item.
The largest costs of Amazon FBA arise from the storage and transportation of products to Amazon’s warehouse. Ideally, you should ship your goods directly from your supplier to Amazon and try not to keep too much inventory on hand.
To build a business, Amazon FBA sellers also need startup capital. However, a specific amount is hard to determine, as the need depends on various factors such as product category, existing logistics, personal expectations, and much more. In general, the startup capital is lower than many beginners believe. With startup capital of less than a thousand euros, six-figure revenues can already be targeted: Revenue: Plus 500 percent – how AMZ Smartsell built a six-figure business in just one year.
Amazon FBA storage costs typically range between €33.60 and €66.59.
The pure sales commission varies by product category between 7% and 45%. However, especially with Amazon FBA, there are additional costs, such as for storage, returns, and shipping of products.
Since the actual costs for FBA consist of various components, there is no comprehensive document of Amazon FBA fees, neither as a PDF nor as a webpage.
